Local Politics in Limburg-Weilburg The Left Party is actively engaged in local politics in the Limburg-Weilburg district. We advocate for transparent, democratic decision-making and social policies that directly benefit the residents of our communities.

Our Representation
The Left Party is represented in the district council by André Pabst. At present, we hold one of the 71 seats in the council. In the 2026 local elections, we hope to be able to form our own parliamentary group within the district council.

Structure of the District Council
The Limburg-Weilburg district council consists of 71 members, elected for a five-year term. The council decides on fundamental matters concerning the district and sets administrative principles.

• SPD: 17 seats

• Alliance 90/The Greens: 10 seats

• FWG: 6 seats

• AfD: 5 seats

• FDP: 5 seats

• The Left: 1 seat

Our Local Priorities

• Affordable housing and tenant protection

• Expansion of public transport

• Support for  women, families, queer people, refugees, people living in poverty, and people with disabilities

• Environmental and climate protection

• Social services and community support

• Democratic transparency in local administration

Electoral System
The district uses an open-list system with cumulative and split voting. Voters can distribute their votes among candidates from different parties and may allocate up to three votes to individual candidates.

Kommunalpolitik in Limburg-Weilburg

Die Linke engagiert sich aktiv in der Kommunalpolitik im Landkreis Limburg-Weilburg. Wir setzen uns für transparente, demokratische Entscheidungsfindung und soziale Politik ein, die den Bewohner*innen unserer Gemeinden direkt zugute kommt. 

Unsere Vertretung

Die Gruppierung „Die Linke“ hat mit André Pabst und Bernd Steioff zwei Vertreter im Kreistag. Wir halten damit derzeit zwei von 71 Sitzen im Kreistag. Wir streben an, im Rahmen der Kommunalwahl 2026, eine eigene Fraktion im Kreistag bilden zu können.

Der Kreistag Limburg-Weilburg umfasst 71 Mitglieder, die für fünf Jahre gewählt werden. Der Kreistag entscheidet über grundlegende Angelegenheiten des Landkreises und legt Verwaltungsgrundsätze fest.

Wahlsystem

Der Landkreis verwendet ein offenes Listensystem mit Kumulieren und Panaschieren. Wähler*innen können ihre Stimmen auf Kandidat*innen verschiedener Parteien verteilen und bis zu drei Stimmen an einzelne Kandidat*innen vergeben.
